It is a time of intensive growth, during which the body's proportions become increasingly defined. In the last third of pregnancy, the child stores substantial amounts of minerals every day. In this intensive phase, the skeleton is made stable enough to withstand the challenges of birth and gravity in the world outside the belly.
The pelvis and spine gain firmness, which later forms the basis for sitting, crawling, and walking. It is amazing to know that a baby is born with more bones than an adult human.
