Herbstlicher Burger mit Rindfleisch, Cheddar und Apfelringen

Autumn Burger with Ground Beef, Cheddar, and Apple Rings

Seasonal2+y 30 min 4Medium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Mustard

This hearty burger combines savory meat with the fruity sweetness of seasonal apples. It is an exciting flavor combination that is especially popular with hungry children from three years of age, filling them up after an active day. The pairing of iron-rich meat and vitamin-C-packed apples cleverly supports nutrient absorption. Parents get a wonderful autumn recipe that the whole family can enjoy and prepare together.

Ingredients

  • 300 g ground beef (organic quality preferred for a wholesome meal)
  • 2 to 3 whole wheat burger buns (for valuable fiber)
  • 1 large apple (such as Gala or Honeycrisp for a mild tartness)
  • 3 slices of mild cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp canola oil or cooking oil for frying
  • 1 small red onion (optional, for a bit of extra flavor)
  • A few leaves of fresh lettuce (such as crisp green leaf lettuce)
  • 1 tsp mild mustard and 1 tbsp low-sugar ketchup (as a simple dressing)
  • A pinch of mild herbs (like parsley or sweet paprika)

Preparation

  1. Wash the apple thoroughly, remove the core, and cut it into rings about one centimeter thick. Peel the onion and slice it into fine rings.
  2. Mix the ground beef with the herbs in a bowl and use wet hands to shape it into two to 3 flat patties.
  3. Heat the oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Fry the apple rings gently for about 2 to 3 minutes per side until they are soft, then set them aside on a plate.
  4. Fry the meat patties in the same pan. Important for safety: Cook the meat completely through, which takes about 4 to 5 minutes per side, until an internal temperature of over 70 degrees Celsius is reached.
  5. Shortly before the end of the cooking time, place a slice of cheddar on each hot patty and let it melt slightly over reduced heat.
  6. Halve the burger buns, toast them briefly in a toaster or pan, and spread with a little mustard and ketchup. Layer the burger with lettuce, the juicy patty, apple rings, and onions if desired.
  7. Allow the burger to cool slightly before serving and always test the temperature to ensure your child does not burn their mouth.

Variations & Tips

  • Fruity Variation: Instead of apple rings, pear slices fried in a little butter also work wonderfully for a mild, child-friendly sweetness.
  • Storage: Fully cooked patties keep well in the fridge for about two days when covered. They can also be easily frozen and will last in the freezer for up to three months.
  • Adjusting Texture: For children who still struggle with holding a whole burger, simply cut the assembled bun into manageable quarters.
  • For the Whole Family: Adults can enhance their own burgers with some crispy bacon, spicy jalapeños, or a robust barbecue sauce.

Allergy & Safety Notes

This recipe contains gluten from the buns, milk in the cheddar, and mustard. Always introduce new ingredients individually and in small amounts to calmly observe any potential reactions. Raw meat is unsuitable for young children, which is why the patties must always be served completely cooked through. If you have any uncertainties about introducing new foods, it is best to speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Note

Ground beef is an extremely valuable source of iron, which plays an important role during the intensive growth phases of children. The vitamin C from the fried apples naturally helps the body absorb the iron from the meat even better. The whole wheat buns also contribute filling fiber that provides long-lasting energy for the rest of the day.
