Backen mit Kindern: Lustige Quark-Öl-Teig Tierchen

Baking with Kids: Fun Quark and Oil Dough Animals

Baking with kids12+m 35 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Egg, Honey

Introduction

This soft quark and oil dough is perfect for baking together with toddlers aged 12 months and older. It does not stick, works just like play dough, and helps develop your child's fine motor skills through kneading and cutting out shapes. Because the dough is only lightly sweetened, it fits wonderfully into a balanced family diet and invites creative fun in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 150 g low-fat quark (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • 5 tbsp neutral canola oil
  • 1 egg (medium)
  • 40 g honey or agave nectar
  • 300 g wheat flour (all-purpose)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch unsweetened vanilla powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius (conventional) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Place the quark, oil, egg, and honey into a bowl. Mix everything thoroughly until you have a smooth, creamy base.
  3. Combine the flour with the baking powder and vanilla powder. Add these dry ingredients to the quark mixture.
  4. Knead the dough well with your hands until it is smooth and no longer sticks to your fingers.
  5. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about half a centimeter thick. Let your child cut out or shape little animals to their heart's content.
  6. Place the shapes on the baking tray and bake for about 12 to 15 minutes, until they turn a light golden brown.
  7. Let the animals cool completely on a wire rack. Always check the temperature before letting your child take a bite.

Variations & Tips

  • Savory version: Omit the honey and vanilla, and instead knead some grated cheese or mild herbs into the dough.
  • Storage: The baked animals will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about three days. They also freeze beautifully and can be thawed individually as needed.
  • Texture adjustment: For an even softer bite, you can add one tablespoon of milk to the dough before kneading.
  • For the whole family: Brush some of the shapes with a little milk and sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds before baking for a crunchy adult version.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe contains wheat (gluten), egg, and dairy, which are among the most common allergens. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions.

Please note: Honey is only safe for children 12 months and older due to the risk of infant botulism. If you decide to add nuts, use only finely ground nuts to prevent any choking hazards.

If you have any uncertainties about your child's diet or introducing new foods, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

The quark in this recipe provides valuable protein and calcium, which support healthy bone development. Canola oil adds beneficial unsaturated fats that are important for your child's overall growth. Thanks to the reduced sweetness, these baked treats make a wonderful, light snack for between meals.
