Banana Oatmeal Cookies: Easy Recipe for Toddlers

Baking with kids12+m 25 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Gluten

Baking Together Made Easy

These soft banana oatmeal cookies are a wonderful way to explore the world of baking together with your child. They provide valuable energy for active toddlers and are completely free of added sugar. Since the dough contains no raw eggs, it is perfectly safe for your little helper to taste a bit while mixing.

Ingredients

  • 2 very ripe bananas (organic if possible)
  • 100 g quick oats
  • Optional: 1 pinch of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Peel the bananas and place them in a shallow bowl. Your child can now mash the bananas into a fine puree using a fork.
  3. Add the quick oats and cinnamon to the mashed banana. Mix everything thoroughly until a sticky, uniform dough forms.
  4. Use a teaspoon to scoop small portions, place them on the baking sheet, and flatten them slightly.
  5. Bake the cookies for about 12 to 15 minutes until they are lightly golden brown.
  6. Let the cookies cool completely and always check the temperature before your child takes the first bite.

Variations & Tips

  • Mix it up: Stir a tablespoon of unsweetened applesauce or a few finely ground almonds into the dough for a different flavor.
  • For the parents: Adults often love these cookies with a few chopped walnuts and a tiny pinch of salt mixed in.
  • Storage: Stored in an airtight container in the fridge, the cookies will keep for about two to three days. They also freeze beautifully and can be thawed individually.
  • Texture: If you are baking for older children who enjoy a bit more chew, you can use old-fashioned whole oats instead of quick oats.

Allergy & Safety Notes

Oats contain gluten. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions. If you choose to add nuts, make sure they are finely ground to avoid any choking hazard for toddlers. This recipe is naturally honey-free. Please remember that honey is only safe for children over 12 months of age. If you have any uncertainties about feeding or introducing new foods, always speak with your pediatrician.

Nutrition Note

The combination of oats and bananas provides plenty of dietary fiber, which supports healthy digestion. At the same time, the complex carbohydrates from the oats supply your child with long-lasting energy for their active daily routine. The natural potassium in bananas also supports healthy muscle function.
