Chocolate Cake Pops on a Stick for Colorful Decorating

Baking with kids2+y 55 min 4 VeggieHard

Introduction

Baking together is a great adventure for many children. With these chocolate cake pops, little bakers can help out beautifully by crumbling the dough and sprinkling colorful decorations. Kneading and rolling the balls playfully supports your child's fine motor skills.

Ingredients

  • 200 g sponge cake (homemade or store-bought, organic if possible)
  • 50 g cream cheese (plain, full fat)
  • 100 g dark chocolate or baking chocolate (mild)
  • 2 tbsp colorful sprinkles or shredded coconut
  • 10 to 12 cake pop sticks (or short paper straws)

Preparation

  1. Crumble the sponge cake finely with your hands in a large bowl.
  2. Add the cream cheese to the cake crumbs and knead everything until a smooth, thick mixture forms.
  3. Use your hands to shape the dough into about 10 to 12 small balls and place them on a plate.
  4. Slowly melt the chocolate in a water bath over low heat (around 40 degrees Celsius).
  5. Dip the tip of each stick briefly into the melted chocolate and then insert it into a dough ball.
  6. Place the balls in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes so the stick sets firmly.
  7. Afterward, dip the cake pops into the melted chocolate, let the excess drip off, and immediately decorate with sprinkles.
  8. Let the cake pops cool completely and briefly check the temperature of the chocolate before eating.

Variations & Tips

  • Fruity twist: Mix a little unsweetened applesauce into the dough to make it extra moist.
  • Storage: The finished cake pops will keep in the refrigerator in an airtight container for about two to three days. You can also freeze the unglazed dough balls easily.
  • Adjusting texture: For younger siblings, you can skip the chocolate and roll the balls in fine shredded coconut instead.
  • Family tip: Adults often enjoy a version with a hint of cinnamon or finely ground hazelnuts mixed into the dough.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe contains gluten, dairy (cream cheese), and possibly eggs depending on the cake used. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts.

Make sure small decorative elements stick well to the chocolate to prevent choking. Nuts must only be used finely ground for young children, as whole nuts pose a choking hazard.

If you have any uncertainties about your child's diet or introducing new ingredients, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutrition Information

These little treats provide valuable calcium through the cream cheese, which supports growing bones. The dark chocolate brings a small amount of antioxidants. As an occasional sweet, these cake pops fit wonderfully into a balanced diet for children aged three and up.
