Classic Beef Goulash with Macaroni for the Family
Introduction
This classic beef goulash with macaroni is a wonderful comfort meal for the whole family. The slow braising process makes the meat incredibly tender, allowing children from three years of age to chew it easily. At the same time, this dish provides valuable nutrients to support your child's growth.
Ingredients
- 300 g beef (goulash cut, organic if possible)
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 onion
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp sweet paprika powder
- 400 ml low-sodium beef broth
- 150 g macaroni pasta
- 1 tbsp canola oil
Instructions
- Finely dice the onion and bell pepper, and cut the beef into bite-sized pieces.
- Heat the canola oil in a pot and sear the meat on all sides. Add the onions, bell pepper, and tomato paste, roasting everything briefly.
- Dust with the paprika powder and immediately pour in the broth. Cover and let the goulash simmer gently over medium heat for about 90 minutes until the meat is very soft.
- About 10 minutes before the meat is done, cook the macaroni in water according to the package instructions.
- Let the goulash cool down well before serving. Always test the temperature before your child takes the first bite.
Variations and Tips
- Vegetable variety: You can easily swap the bell pepper for carrots or zucchini.
- Storage: The goulash keeps in the fridge for two to three days and freezes beautifully. Portion it into small, airtight containers for later use.
- Adjusting the texture: For younger siblings, you can lightly puree or mash the meat and sauce with a fork.
- For the parents: Season your own portion at the table with a pinch of salt, freshly ground pepper, or a little chili.
Allergy and Safety Information
This recipe contains gluten in the pasta and potentially celery in the broth. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any reactions. Never use honey to sweeten the sauce for children under twelve months of age due to the risk of infant botulism. If you have any uncertainties about introducing solid foods or family allergies, speak with your pediatrician.
Nutritional Note
Beef provides valuable iron, which supports blood formation and cognitive development. The red bell pepper is rich in vitamin C, helping the body absorb the iron from the meat optimally. Macaroni also provides the necessary energy for an active day.
