Snacks2+y 10 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Sesame

A Colorful Snack for Little Explorers

This bright pink beetroot hummus easily catches a child's eye and turns vegetable snacking into a colorful experience. For children three years and older, who often develop a strong preference for visually appealing foods, this dip is a wonderful choice. It provides valuable energy for afternoon play and playfully supports fine motor skills during dipping.

Ingredients

  • 200 g chickpeas (canned or jarred, drained)
  • 100 g precooked beetroot (vacuum-packed)
  • 1 tbsp tahini (sesame paste)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • A pinch of mild paprika
  • 1 small carrot (peeled)
  • Half a kohlrabi (peeled)

Preparation

  1. Place the chickpeas in a sieve and rinse them thoroughly under running water.
  2. Cut the precooked beetroot into rough chunks.
  3. Put the chickpeas, beetroot, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and paprika into a blender or a tall container.
  4. Blend everything until a smooth and creamy consistency forms. Add a teaspoon of water if needed.
  5. Cut the carrot and kohlrabi into handy sticks that your child can easily grasp.
  6. Spoon the hummus into a bowl and serve it alongside the fresh vegetable sticks.

Variations and Tips

  • Vary the vegetables: Instead of carrots and kohlrabi, cucumber sticks or mild bell pepper strips are also excellent for dipping.
  • Storage: The hummus will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about two to three days.
  • Freezing: You can easily freeze the dip. It is best to fill it into small portion containers, where it will keep for up to three months.
  • Family Tip: For adults, the hummus can be beautifully enhanced with a pinch of salt, cumin, and a little garlic.

Allergy Notes and Safety

This recipe contains sesame in the form of tahini, which is a common allergen. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts so you can easily observe any potential reactions. Also, ensure that hard vegetable sticks are easy for your child to chew to prevent choking. If you have any uncertainties about diet or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutrients for Everyday Life

Chickpeas provide valuable plant-based proteins and fiber, which help keep little tummies full. The beetroot adds a good portion of iron and antioxidants to the plate. This nutrient combination is wonderfully suited to support the active daily life of children from three years of age.
