Colorful Family Sheet Pizza for Self-Topping

Family meals2+y 85 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy

This colorful family sheet pizza turns dinner into a wonderful experience for your child. Decorating their own meal fosters fine motor skills and sparks curiosity about different vegetables. At the same time, the vibrant toppings provide valuable vitamins for growing bodies.

Ingredients

For 2 to 3 portions, you will need the following ingredients (choose organic where it makes sense for your family):

For the dough:

  • 300 g spelt flour
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 150 ml lukewarm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 pinch of salt

For the sauce:

  • 200 ml strained tomatoes (tomato puree)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the toppings:

  • 100 g grated mozzarella cheese
  • 50 g sweet corn (canned, unsweetened)
  • 0.5 red bell pepper
  • 50 g mild mushrooms

Preparation

  1. Mix the flour, yeast, lukewarm water, olive oil, and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Knead everything until a smooth, supple dough forms.
  2. Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for about 45 minutes, until it has noticeably expanded.
  3. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (conventional heat). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Roll out the dough on the baking sheet and spread the strained tomatoes evenly over it. Sprinkle the oregano on top.
  5. Now your child can decorate the pizza with corn, finely diced bell pepper, mushrooms, and mozzarella as they like.
  6. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.
  7. Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool down well before serving. Always test the temperature before your child takes the first bite.

Variations and Tips

  • Vegetable variety: Feel free to swap bell peppers and corn for zucchini, cherry tomatoes, or broccoli florets.
  • Storage: Leftovers keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about two days. You can also freeze baked pizza slices and reheat them in the oven when needed.
  • For the parents: Adults can refine their half of the pizza with fresh arugula, chili flakes, or prosciutto after baking.
  • Adjusting texture: For younger siblings, you can steam the vegetables slightly beforehand so they become softer on the pizza.

Allergy and Safety Information

This recipe contains gluten (spelt flour) and dairy (mozzarella). Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any reactions.

Make sure that small vegetable pieces are chewed well. If you have any concerns about nutrition or introducing solid foods, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutrients for Your Child
