Colorful Rainbow Fruit Skewers with Creamy Vanilla Yogurt Dip

Snacks2+y 15 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Dairy

Introduction

Colorful fruit skewers with a mild vanilla yogurt dip bring joy to the table and are perfect for children aged three and up. Threading the fruit together promotes fine motor skills and playfully sparks an interest in fresh fruit. Many children love reaching for this bright and cheerful snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 1 mandarin orange
  • 100 g seedless grapes
  • 100 g strawberries or raspberries
  • 150 g plain yogurt (whole milk, organic if possible)
  • 0.5 tsp ground real vanilla
  • 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)
  • Wooden skewers (blunt or with pointed ends cut off)

Preparation

  1. Wash the fruit thoroughly and let it drain.
  2. Peel the banana and cut it into thick slices. Peel the mandarin and separate it into individual segments.
  3. Always cut the grapes in half or quarters lengthwise to prevent choking. Halve the strawberries if necessary.
  4. Thread the prepared fruit alternately onto the wooden skewers. Many children love to help with this step.
  5. For the dip, stir the plain yogurt with the ground vanilla and optional maple syrup until smooth.
  6. Serve the fruit skewers alongside the creamy dip.

Variations and Tips

  • The fruit can easily be adapted to the season. In summer, melon pieces or peaches are excellent additions.
  • The dip can be enhanced for the whole family with a pinch of cinnamon or a spoonful of nut butter.
  • Store the finished skewers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one day. Freezing is not recommended, as the fruit will become mushy.
  • For younger children, you can simply mix the chopped fruit in a bowl with the dip instead of using skewers.

Allergy and Safety Notes

  • This recipe contains dairy (EU allergen: milk). Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts.
  • Make sure to always cut round fruits like grapes or blueberries lengthwise. This significantly minimizes the risk of choking.
  • Pay attention to the sharp ends of the wooden skewers and snip them off beforehand if necessary.
  • If you have any uncertainties about nutrition or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutrition Note

Fresh fruit provides valuable vitamins, especially vitamin C, and important dietary fiber for good digestion. The plain yogurt adds a portion of calcium to the menu, which supports bone development. This combination delivers quick energy for active afternoons.
