Cremiger Polenta-Brei mit Apfel und Karotte für Babys

Creamy Polenta, Apple and Carrot Puree for Babies

Solids intro5+m 18 min 4 VeganEasy

Cornmeal (polenta) provides a wonderfully soft texture and adds nice variety to your child's menu. Steamed apple and carrot give the puree a mild sweetness that many children love. It makes a fantastic vegetarian lunch or dinner for those early days of exploring solids.

Ingredients

  • 20 g cornmeal (polenta, organic if possible)
  • 50 g carrot
  • 50 g apple (a sweet variety, like Gala)
  • 100 ml water
  • 1 tsp canola oil or specific baby weaning oil

Preparation

  1. Wash, peel, and finely dice the carrot and the apple.
  2. Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan.
  3. Add the diced apple and carrot to the boiling water and simmer over medium heat for about 8 minutes until tender.
  4. Slowly whisk in the cornmeal to ensure no lumps form.
  5. Let the mixture simmer gently while stirring for another 2 to 3 minutes until a smooth, creamy texture is achieved.
  6. Remove the pot from the heat, stir in the oil, and puree everything very finely if needed.
  7. Allow the puree to cool down completely and always test the temperature before feeding your child.

Variations & Tips

  • Variation: Feel free to swap the apple for a mild pear. This introduces a lovely new flavor to the meal.
  • Storage: The puree keeps well in the fridge for up to two days when covered tightly. It also freezes beautifully, especially when portioned into ice cube trays.
  • Texture: For those very first spoonfuls, you can thin the puree out with a little extra water, breast milk, or formula.
  • Family Tip: For older children or parents, you can season the remaining polenta with a pinch of salt and some grated cheese.

Allergy & Safety Information

This puree is naturally gluten-free and does not contain any of the top 14 major allergens. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily spot any potential reactions. Ensure the puree is completely smooth with no chunks for early eaters. If you have any questions or concerns about starting solids, always consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

This puree offers valuable carbohydrates from the cornmeal, which are filling and gentle on the tummy. Carrots provide beta-carotene, while apples add a dose of vitamin C. The vitamin C and the added oil work together to help your child's body absorb these nutrients optimally.
