Creamy Rice Pudding with Warm Apple Cinnamon Compote
This warming dish brings comfort to the family table and is a wonderful choice for children aged three and older. The combination of filling rice and fruity apples provides valuable energy for active days. The natural sweetness of the fruit makes additional sugar completely unnecessary.
Ingredients
- 125 g short-grain rice (ideally organic)
- 500 ml whole milk (or an unsweetened oat drink)
- 1 pinch of real vanilla powder
- 2 ripe apples
- 50 ml water
- 0.5 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
Preparation
- Slowly bring the milk to a boil in a medium-sized pot.
- Stir in the rice and vanilla powder, then immediately reduce the heat to a low setting.
- Let the rice simmer gently for about 30 minutes until a smooth, creamy texture forms. Stir regularly to prevent burning.
- Meanwhile, wash, core, and cut the apples into small, bite-sized cubes.
- Simmer the apple cubes together with the water and cinnamon in a small pot for about 10 minutes until soft.
- Portion the finished rice pudding into bowls and top with the warm apple compote. Important: Let it cool down well and always test the temperature before feeding or eating.
Variations & Tips
- Swap the fruit: Instead of apples, soft pears or fresh summer berries are a lovely match for this dish.
- Storage: Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to two days when covered. Freezing is possible, though it often makes the rice slightly softer after thawing.
- For the parents: Adults can top their portion with chopped, roasted almonds or a small splash of maple syrup.
Allergy & Safety Information
This recipe contains cow's milk, a known allergen. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions. If you add nuts for the adults, be mindful of the choking hazard for small children and only use finely ground nut butter for them. If you have any concerns about nutrition, consult your pediatrician.
Nutritional Information
The rice pudding provides important calcium from the milk, which is needed for bone growth. The apples add valuable fiber and vitamins to the meal. Together, this creates a balanced, energy-rich combination for your child's growing body.
