Crispy Baked Camembert Wedges with Cranberry Dip
Crispy Baked Camembert Wedges with Cranberry Dip
Creamy melted cheese on the inside, a crispy coating on the outside, served with a fruity sweet cranberry sauce. This warm snack is very popular with many children from three years of age and is wonderful for a cozy afternoon. Cheese provides important calcium and high-quality protein for the day.
The combination of savory cheese and a sweet dip makes eating an exciting taste experience. Such contrasts often help children discover new flavors with joy. In addition, the recipe is straightforward and can easily be prepared together with little helpers in the kitchen.
Ingredients
- 1 Camembert wheel (approx. 250 g, must be made from pasteurized milk)
- 1 egg (preferably organic)
- 50 g breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp flour
- 3 tbsp cranberry sauce (alternatively a fruit spread without chunks)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut the Camembert into eight equal wedges using a sharp knife.
- Prepare three deep plates: one with flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Thoroughly coat each cheese wedge first in flour, then dip it in the egg, and finally roll it in the breadcrumbs until completely covered.
- Place the breaded wedges on the baking sheet and bake for about 10 to 12 minutes until the breading becomes golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool slightly before serving and always check the temperature inside, as the cheese gets very hot. Serve with cranberry sauce as a dip.
Variations & Tips
- Instead of cranberries, a mild applesauce or a homemade pear compote also pairs wonderfully as a fruity companion.
- Baked leftovers keep in the fridge in an airtight container for up to two days. Freezing is not recommended for this dish, as the crispy texture of the breading is lost after thawing.
- For younger children, the breading can be completely omitted. Instead, simply offer mild, plain cheese pieces together with some applesauce.
- Adults can refine the dip for their own plate with a pinch of chili powder or some fresh thyme to create a slightly spicy note.
Allergy & Safety Information
- This recipe contains milk (lactose and milk protein), egg, and gluten from the wheat flour in the breadcrumbs.
- When shopping, make absolutely sure the Camembert is made from pasteurized milk. Raw milk products pose serious health risks for young children due to potential bacteria.
- Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential intolerances.
- If you have any uncertainties about introducing solid foods, specific ingredients, or general nutrition, please consult your pediatrician at any time.
