Knuspriges Knäckebrot mit Schnittlauch-Hüttenkäse für Kinder

Crispy Crispbread with Chive Cottage Cheese for Children

Snacks2+y 10 min 4 VeggieEasy
Contains: Gluten, Dairy

Introduction

This crispy crispbread topped with fresh chives and cottage cheese makes a wonderful snack for children aged three and older. The loud crunch when biting into it brings a lot of joy to many children and naturally supports their oral motor skills. At the same time, the cottage cheese provides valuable building blocks for growth. The preparation is incredibly easy, so your child can even help with spreading the cheese.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of whole-grain crispbread (organic preferred)
  • 150 g cottage cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon mild olive oil or flaxseed oil
  • A tiny pinch of salt (optional, as the cheese is often slightly salty)
  • 1 small mild carrot or a piece of cucumber on the side

Preparation

  1. Wash the chives thoroughly and pat them dry. Then cut them into very fine rings.
  2. Place the cottage cheese in a small bowl. Gently stir in the oil and the chives using a spoon.
  3. Season the mixture with a tiny pinch of salt if desired.
  4. Generously spread the finished cheese mixture onto the crispbread slices.
  5. Cut the vegetables into handy sticks and serve them alongside. Always check the temperature before serving and ensure the vegetable sticks are a safe size for your child.

Variations and Tips

  • Vegetable variation: Instead of chives, finely grated carrots or mild bell pepper cubes also taste excellent mixed into the cottage cheese.
  • Storage: The prepared cottage cheese keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for about two days. Please always spread the crispbread fresh, as it will otherwise become soggy. Freezing is not suitable for this recipe.
  • Adjusting texture: For children who prefer a less chunky texture, you can lightly mash the cottage cheese with a fork before spreading.
  • For the whole family: Adults can refine their portion with freshly ground black pepper, radish slices, or a few chili flakes.

Allergy and Safety Information

  • This recipe contains dairy (cottage cheese) and gluten (whole-grain crispbread), which are common allergens.
  • Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions.
  • When serving raw vegetables on the side, ensure they are cut in an age-appropriate way to prevent choking.
  • If you have any uncertainties about nutrition or introducing new foods, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein and provides important calcium for strong bones and teeth. The whole-grain crispbread offers valuable fiber, which keeps your child full for longer and supports healthy digestion. Fresh chives also contain vitamin C, which improves the absorption of iron from plant-based foods.
