Baking with kids2+y 4Easy
Introduction
These crispy mini tartes flambées are a wonderful recipe for getting creative in the kitchen together with your child. Topping the small flatbreads supports fine motor skills and playfully sparks curiosity about colorful vegetables. At the same time, the vibrant vegetable mix provides valuable vitamins for growing bodies.
Ingredients
- For the dough (two to three portions):
- 200 g spelt flour (or whole wheat flour)
- 100 ml lukewarm water
- 2 tbsp mild olive oil
- 1 pinch of salt
- For the topping:
- 100 g sour cream (or crème fraîche)
- 1 tsp mild herbs (for example chives or parsley, finely chopped)
- 50 g red bell pepper, diced into small pieces
- 50 g sweet corn (canned, unsweetened)
- 1 small spring onion, cut into fine rings
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius (425 degrees Fahrenheit).
- In a bowl, knead the spelt flour, lukewarm water, olive oil, and a pinch of salt into a smooth dough. The dough is ready when it no longer sticks to your fingers.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll them out into thin, round mini flatbreads on a floured surface.
- Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and spread the sour cream evenly over them.
- Now your child can top the tartes flambées with bell pepper, corn, and spring onions as they like.
- Bake the mini tartes flambées in the preheated oven for about 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool well after baking and always check the temperature before serving.
Variations and Tips
- Colorful toppings: Feel free to swap out the vegetables. Diced zucchini, grated carrots, or small cherry tomato halves work wonderfully.
- Storage: Baked tartes flambées can be kept covered in the fridge for about two days. They also freeze well and can be crisped up in the oven when needed.
- For the whole family: Adults can refine their portion with a little pepper, bacon bits, or strong cheese before baking.
- Adapting the texture: For younger children, you can lightly steam the vegetables beforehand to make them softer.
