Crispy Roasted Chickpeas with Paprika for Kids
Introduction
These crispy chickpeas are a wonderful snack for children aged three and older. They provide valuable plant-based proteins and fiber for those little moments of hunger in between meals. With their mild paprika flavor, they are often a big hit with the whole family and encourage healthy snacking habits.
Ingredients
- 1 can of chickpeas (drained weight approx. 265 g, organic if possible)
- 2 tablespoons mild olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sweet paprika powder
- A small pinch of salt
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit).
- Drain the chickpeas in a sieve and rinse them thoroughly with cold water.
- Spread the chickpeas on a clean kitchen towel and dry them very well. The drier they are, the crispier they will become in the oven.
- In a bowl, mix the chickpeas with the olive oil, paprika powder, and the pinch of salt until everything is well coated.
- Spread the marinated chickpeas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they are not overlapping.
- Roast in the oven for about 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Shake the pan once halfway through the cooking time.
- Let them cool completely and check the temperature before serving.
Variations & Tips
- Flavor twists: Instead of paprika, you can use mild herbs like thyme or a little garlic powder to change up the taste.
- Storage: Kept in an airtight glass container at room temperature, the chickpeas will last for two to three days. They may lose a bit of their crunch over time.
- Texture adjustment: For children who prefer a softer bite, simply reduce the roasting time by five to ten minutes.
- For the whole family: Parents can easily spice up their own portion with a little chili flakes or extra salt after roasting.
Allergy & Safety Information
Legumes are incredibly healthy but can sometimes cause mild bloating. It is always a good idea to introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts. Small, round, and hard foods require careful chewing. Always stay nearby when your child is eating to prevent any choking hazards. If you have any uncertainties about your child's diet or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutritional Information
Chickpeas are an excellent source of dietary fiber, which supports healthy digestion. They also provide plant-based protein and important iron. This combination of nutrients gives active children great energy for their day.
