Introduction
This simple yogurt cake is a wonderful baking adventure for children around three years and older. By using the empty yogurt pot as a measuring cup, many children can measure the ingredients almost entirely by themselves. Stirring the batter together supports fine motor skills and playfully sparks a love for wholesome food.
Ingredients
- 1 small pot plain yogurt (approx. 150g, organic if possible)
- 1 pot wheat or spelt flour
- 0.5 pot unsweetened applesauce
- 0.5 pot mild vegetable oil (e.g., canola oil)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder (Yields a small loaf or 6 muffins, enough for 2 to 3 portions)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (standard bake) and grease a small baking pan or muffin tin.
- Spoon the yogurt into a mixing bowl, then wash and dry the empty pot thoroughly.
- Add the eggs, oil, and applesauce to the yogurt, whisking everything until well combined.
- Measure the flour and baking powder using the pot, add to the wet ingredients, and stir briefly until a smooth batter forms.
- Pour the batter into the pan and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the cake cool completely and always check the temperature inside before serving.
