Introduction
Mild pieces of salmon and soft broccoli florets baked in a light cream sauce make a wonderful family meal. This dish is a great way to serve fish, and the pasta makes it a favorite for many children. Salmon provides valuable omega-3 fatty acids to gently support healthy brain development.
Ingredients
- 250 g salmon fillet (boneless, organic if possible)
- 300 g broccoli
- 200 g pasta (for example, penne or fusilli)
- 200 ml heavy cream
- 100 ml low-sodium vegetable broth
- 50 g grated cheese (like mild gouda or cheddar)
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1 pinch of black pepper
- A little fresh parsley (finely chopped)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (standard bake).
- Cook the pasta in gently boiling water according to the package instructions until almost tender, then drain well.
- Cut the broccoli into small florets and steam them in a pot with a little water for about five minutes until soft.
- Wash the salmon fillet, pat it dry, check carefully for any bones, and cut it into bite-sized pieces.
- Brush a baking dish with the canola oil, then spread the pasta, broccoli, and salmon evenly inside.
- Mix the heavy cream and vegetable broth in a small bowl, season with pepper and parsley, and pour the mixture over the ingredients.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly on top and bake the gratin in the oven for 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the gratin cool down well before serving and always check the temperature before your child eats.
Variations & Tips
- Vegetable swap: Cauliflower or peas work wonderfully in this dish if broccoli is not a favorite right now.
- Tip for the parents: You can easily season your own portion at the table with a little salt, chili flakes, or a squeeze of lemon juice.
- Storage: Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to two days when covered.
- Freezing: The baked gratin can be frozen in portions and enjoyed within two months.
Allergy & Safety Notes
- This recipe contains fish, milk (dairy), and wheat (gluten).
- Introduce new foods individually and in small amounts to carefully observe any potential reactions your child might have.
- When preparing fish, pay very close attention to ensure all bones are completely removed.
- If you have any concerns about your child's diet, introducing new ingredients, or potential allergies, always consult your pediatrician.
Nutrition Notes
Salmon is a fantastic source of valuable omega-3 fatty acids, which play a key role in a child's development. Broccoli adds vitamin C and iron, which the body absorbs well in this combination. The pasta provides lasting energy for an active day full of play and discovery.
