Contains: Dairy

Introduction

These fun sausage snails are a visual highlight at the family table and bring a lot of joy to mealtime. The sweet carrot and potato mash provides an extra portion of vegetables and offers a wonderfully soft, creamy texture. This hearty and familiar dish provides valuable energy for active days and invites the whole family to enjoy a meal together.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 mild sausages (organic quality preferred)
  • 400 g potatoes (floury variety)
  • 300 g carrots
  • 50 ml whole milk (or plant-based alternative)
  • 1 tbsp butter (or mild canola oil)
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • A little mild vegetable oil for frying
  • Wooden skewers to hold the snails

Preparation

  1. Peel the potatoes and carrots, then cut them into rough cubes.
  2. Boil the vegetables in a pot with a little water for about 15 to 20 minutes until soft.
  3. Meanwhile, carefully roll the sausages into snail shapes and secure them with a wooden skewer.
  4. Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the sausage snails over medium heat on both sides until golden brown and fully cooked.
  5. Drain the soft vegetables, add the milk and butter, and mash everything until creamy. Refine with a pinch of nutmeg.
  6. Be sure to remove the wooden skewers completely before serving. Let the food cool down well and test the temperature before feeding.

Variations and Tips

  • Swap the vegetables: Sweet potatoes, pumpkin, or parsnips also work wonderfully in the mash instead of carrots.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. The mash also freezes very well for later meals.
  • For the whole family: Adults can season their mash at the table with a little salt, pepper, or fresh herbs.
  • Adjusting texture: For younger siblings, the mash can easily be pureed even finer with a little extra milk.

Allergy and Safety Information

This recipe contains milk through the butter and whole milk. If there is an intolerance, you can easily use plant-based alternatives. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to carefully observe any potential reactions. Make sure the sausage is completely cooked through and remove the wooden skewers entirely before eating. If you have any uncertainties about nutrition or introducing new foods, it is best to consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Through the potatoes and carrots, this dish provides valuable carbohydrates and fiber, which offer long-lasting energy for active children. The carrots also contain plenty of beta-carotene, which is important for healthy vision. The combination of vegetables and mild meat ensures good satiety and supports growth in a delicious way.
