Fruity Cherry Rolls from Soft Quark Dough

Baking with kids12+m 33 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Egg, Honey

Introduction

These fruity cherry rolls made from a soft quark dough are wonderfully tender and perfect for little hands. Baking together supports your child's fine motor skills as they happily press the cherries into the dough. This recipe also provides valuable energy for an active day at the family table and is simply a joy to make.

Ingredients

  • 250 g low-fat quark (or plain Greek yogurt)
  • 6 tbsp neutral canola oil
  • 1 egg
  • 50 ml milk
  • 1 tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
  • 300 g all-purpose flour (or spelt flour)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 150 g fresh cherries (pitted and halved)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the quark, oil, egg, milk, and honey in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Combine the flour and baking powder, then quickly knead them into the wet ingredients to form a soft dough.
  4. Divide the dough into eight equal pieces and shape them into small round rolls.
  5. Let your child gently press the halved cherries into the dough balls.
  6. Bake the rolls for about 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let them cool completely before serving, and always check the inside temperature before your child takes a bite.

Variations & Tips

  • Different fruit: Instead of cherries, blueberries or small apple pieces work beautifully in this dough.
  • Storage: The rolls will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about two to three days.
  • Freezing: They freeze exceptionally well and can be thawed individually as needed.
  • For the whole family: Adults can dust their rolls with a little powdered sugar or serve them with butter.

Allergy & Safety Information

  • This recipe contains wheat (gluten), egg, and dairy. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts.
  • Caution: Honey is strictly forbidden for babies under 12 months, as it can cause life-threatening botulism.
  • Ensure the cherries are completely pitted and easy for your child to chew.
  • If you have any uncertainties about feeding or introducing new foods, it is always best to consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

The quark provides valuable protein and calcium for growth. Cherries offer Vitamin C and important antioxidants. The canola oil also contributes healthy fats, which are highly beneficial for child development.
