Fruity Mango Oat Balls for Toddlers

Snacks12+m 30 min 4 VeganMedium
Contains: Gluten, Tree nuts

Introduction

These little energy bites are an ideal snack for active toddlers from twelve months of age. They provide quick energy for an afternoon at the playground and rely entirely on natural sweetness. The combination of fruity mango and filling oats supports a varied diet in a delicious way.

Ingredients

  • 150 g ripe mango (peeled and diced)
  • 100 g quick oats
  • 2 tbsp finely ground almonds or desiccated coconut
  • 1 tsp mild almond butter
  • Optional: a little extra oatmeal for rolling

Preparation

  1. Place the mango pieces in a blender and process into a smooth puree.
  2. Put the mango puree, oats, ground almonds, and almond butter into a mixing bowl.
  3. Mix everything thoroughly until you get a dough-like consistency.
  4. Let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes so the oats can absorb the moisture.
  5. With slightly damp hands, form small, bite-sized balls.
  6. Roll the balls in a little extra oatmeal or coconut flakes if desired.

Variations & Tips

  • Instead of mango, you can easily use smooth applesauce or mashed banana.
  • For the parents: You can quickly upgrade these bites for yourselves with a pinch of cinnamon or a little honey.
  • Stored in an airtight container in the fridge, the balls stay fresh for about three days.
  • They also freeze exceptionally well. Simply let them thaw at room temperature when needed.

Allergy & Safety Info

  • This recipe contains almonds (tree nuts) and oats (gluten).
  • Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any reactions.
  • Important note: Honey is only safe for children over twelve months, as there is a risk of infant botulism before that age.
  • Whole nuts pose a choking hazard and must only be offered finely ground or as a smooth butter.
  • If you have any concerns about introducing new foods or your child's diet, always consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Info

Oats provide valuable complex carbohydrates and fiber, which help keep your child full and satisfied. The mango adds a great dose of vitamin C, which also boosts the absorption of the plant-based iron found in the oats. Ground nuts complete the snack with high-quality plant fats that support healthy development.
