Fruity Oat and Strawberry Energy Balls for Kids

Snacks2+y 45 min 4 VeganMedium
Contains: Gluten

Introduction

These little energy bites made from rolled oats, banana, and freeze-dried strawberries are an ideal snack for active children from three years of age. They provide quick energy for the playground and support healthy digestion with valuable fiber. The balls are soft, raw, and rolled in just a few minutes, making it easy to whip up a delicious snack during a busy family day. Picking up the small balls also gently supports fine motor skills.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana (organic preferred)
  • 80 g rolled oats
  • 15 g freeze-dried strawberries
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)

Preparation

  1. Crush the freeze-dried strawberries into a fine powder using a blender or a mortar.
  2. Mash the ripe banana in a bowl with a fork until it forms a smooth puree.
  3. Add the oats, strawberry powder, melted coconut oil, and maple syrup (if using) to the mashed banana.
  4. Mix everything thoroughly until a sticky, moldable dough forms.
  5. Use your hands to roll the mixture into small balls (about the size of a walnut).
  6. Place the balls in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to firm up. Before serving, check that the temperature is comfortable for your child.

Variations & Tips

  • Fruity variety: Simply swap the strawberries for freeze-dried raspberries or blueberries.
  • Texture adjustment: For a smoother texture, you can pulse the oats in a food processor briefly before mixing.
  • Storage: The balls will keep for about three days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Freezing: You can easily freeze the balls (for up to two months) and thaw them individually at room temperature when needed.
  • For the whole family: Adults can roll their portion in shredded coconut or dark cocoa powder for an extra treat.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe contains gluten from the oats, unless you use certified gluten-free oats. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any potential reactions. Although this recipe is nut-free, remember that nuts are best offered to young children finely ground or as a butter to prevent choking. Please avoid honey entirely during the first year of life due to the risk of infant botulism, even though this recipe targets older toddlers. If you have any uncertainties about diet or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

The oats in this recipe provide complex carbohydrates and fiber, ensuring long-lasting energy for playtime. The banana adds natural potassium, while the freeze-dried strawberries contribute vitamin C. This combination supports the immune system and the overall development of your child in a very tasty way.
