Fruchtige Birnen-Kokos-Würfel: Ein erfrischender Snack für Kleinkinder

Fruity Pear and Coconut Cubes: A Refreshing Toddler Snack

Snacks12+m 140 min 4 VeganMedium
Contains: Honey

This refreshing snack is made from smooth pear puree and a plant-based gelling agent. The soft cubes practically melt in the mouth and offer a wonderful, fruity alternative to traditional sweets. They are perfect for little hands and encourage independent eating.

Ingredients

  • 200 g ripe pears (peeled and diced, about 2 medium pears)
  • 100 ml unsweetened coconut milk (canned or carton)
  • 1 tsp agar-agar (plant-based gelling agent, about 2 to 3 g)
  • 1 pinch of ground vanilla
  • Optional: 1 tsp maple syrup or honey (only for children over 12 months)

Preparation

  1. Place the peeled pear cubes in a small pot with one tablespoon of water and steam until soft. This takes about 5 to 10 minutes over medium heat.
  2. Blend the soft pear pieces with an immersion blender until you have a smooth, fine puree.
  3. Add the coconut milk, ground vanilla, and agar-agar to the pear puree in the pot and stir well.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it simmer gently for about 2 minutes while stirring constantly. The boiling process activates the agar-agar.
  5. Pour the mixture into a small, shallow dish or silicone ice cube trays.
  6. Let it cool completely in the fridge for at least 2 hours until fully set.
  7. Cut into small, bite-sized cubes before serving and always check the temperature first.

Variations and Tips

  • Fruit Variation: You can easily swap the pears for apples, peaches, or mangoes.
  • Storage: The cubes will keep for about 2 to 3 days in an airtight container in the fridge. Freezing is not recommended for agar-agar, as the texture can become watery when thawed.
  • For the Whole Family: Adults can roll the cubes in shredded coconut or drizzle them with a little dark chocolate.

Allergy and Safety Information

Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any potential reactions. This recipe is free from the top EU14 allergens as long as pure coconut milk is used. While coconut is not classified as a tree nut botanically, caution is still advised if your child has known allergies.

Caution regarding honey: If you choose to sweeten this recipe with honey, it is strictly reserved for children aged 12 months and older due to the risk of infant botulism. Nuts or seeds, if you wish to add them as a topping, must only be offered finely ground due to the choking hazard. If you have any uncertainties about introducing new foods, always consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

This snack provides valuable dietary fiber from the pears, which supports healthy digestion. The coconut milk offers quick energy and fats that are important for growth. At the same time, the recipe is wonderfully light and completely free of added refined sugar.
