Snacks2+y 10 min 4 VeggieEasy
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Tree nuts

A Cheerful Snack for Little Explorers

These cheerful peach and quark toasties are a wonderful snack for children three years and older. Using cookie cutters to create fun shapes makes eating an engaging experience, gently encouraging your child to try new textures. At the same time, the combination of whole grains, dairy, and fruit provides valuable energy for afternoon play.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of whole wheat bread (organic if possible)
  • 100 g mild quark or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 ripe peach (or 2 unsweetened canned peach halves)
  • 1 tsp mild almond butter (optional)
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Preparation

  1. Wash the peach thoroughly, remove the pit, and cut the fruit into very small cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, stir the quark, almond butter, and a pinch of cinnamon together until smooth and creamy.
  3. Place the slices of whole wheat bread on a cutting board and use cookie cutters (like stars or hearts) to press out fun shapes.
  4. Spread the creamy quark mixture generously over the cut-out bread shapes.
  5. Finally, distribute the small peach cubes evenly over the quark, pressing them down slightly.
  6. Before serving, check that the fruit pieces are soft and easy for your child to chew.

Variations & Tips

  • Fruit Variation: Instead of peaches, soft pear pieces, raspberries, or banana slices work beautifully.
  • Storage: These toasties are best enjoyed fresh. The prepared quark mixture can be kept covered in the fridge for up to two days. Freezing is not recommended for this recipe.
  • For the whole family: Adults can elevate their toasties with a sprinkle of chopped walnuts and a drizzle of maple syrup.
  • Zero Waste: The leftover bread crusts can be toasted in a dry pan and used as crunchy croutons for a mild vegetable soup.

Allergy & Safety Notes

This recipe contains gluten (bread), dairy (quark), and tree nuts (almond butter). Introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions.

Always offer nuts or seeds finely ground or as a smooth butter for young children to prevent choking hazards. If you have any questions about your child's diet or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Benefits

Whole wheat bread provides complex carbohydrates and fiber, offering long-lasting energy for active children. Quark is a valuable source of protein, supporting muscle and bone development. Fresh peaches add important vitamin C, which wonderfully enhances the absorption of iron from the whole grain bread.
