Funny Rice Cake Animal Faces with Peanut Butter

Snacks2+y 5 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Peanuts

A Cheerful Snack for In-Between

This colorful snack sparks curiosity and invites hands-on participation. Children aged three and up often have a lot of fun creating funny animal faces out of simple ingredients. Along the way, this combination provides valuable energy for an active afternoon.

Ingredients (for 2 to 3 portions)

  • 3 unsalted rice cakes (organic quality preferred)
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened peanut butter (100 percent peanuts, smooth)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 small handful of fresh blueberries (approx. 30 g)
  • Optional: 1 pinch of cinnamon

Preparation

  1. Peel the banana and cut it into slices about half a centimeter thick.
  2. Wash the blueberries thoroughly and pat them dry.
  3. Spread about one tablespoon of peanut butter evenly over each rice cake.
  4. Use the banana slices to create ears or a snout on the rice cakes.
  5. Place the blueberries as eyes and a nose until a funny face appears.
  6. Before eating, briefly check that the fruit pieces are a safe size and texture for your child.

Variations and Tips

  • Swap the fruit: Instead of bananas and blueberries, soft strawberry slices or halved raspberries work wonderfully.
  • Storage: Finished rice cakes get soggy quickly and do not store well. It is best to prepare this snack fresh right before eating.
  • For the whole family: Adults can upgrade their rice cakes with a pinch of sea salt, chia seeds, or a drizzle of honey.
  • Texture: For younger siblings, you can gently squish or halve the blueberries to make them even softer and safer.

Allergy and Safety Notes

This recipe contains peanuts, a common allergen. Always introduce new ingredients like peanut butter one at a time and in small amounts.

Whole nuts pose a choking hazard for toddlers, which is why only smooth butter is used here. Please note: Honey is strictly off-limits for children under 12 months.

If you have any uncertainties about introducing new foods or allergies, please speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Peanut butter provides your child with valuable plant-based proteins and healthy fats. These are an important building block for growth and long-lasting fullness. The fresh fruits also deliver vitamins and dietary fiber for good digestion.
