Solids intro5+m 15 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Gluten

Introduction

This quick porridge combines soft-cooked couscous with a mild apricot puree. It works wonderfully as a dairy-free afternoon snack, providing valuable energy. The fine grain of the couscous helps your child gently explore new textures at their own pace.

Ingredients

  • 3 fresh apricots (approx. 150g, organic if possible)
  • 2 tbsp baby couscous (approx. 20g)
  • 60 ml water (for the couscous)
  • 1 tsp mild canola oil or baby-safe cooking oil

Preparation

  1. Wash, halve, and pit the apricots carefully.
  2. Cut the fruit into small pieces and simmer them in a small pot with one tablespoon of water for about five minutes until very soft.
  3. Blend the soft apricots with an immersion blender until you have a smooth, creamy puree.
  4. Meanwhile, boil 60 ml of water and pour it over the couscous.
  5. Cover the couscous and let it sit for about five minutes until it is completely soft and fluffy.
  6. Stir the apricot puree and the oil into the couscous.
  7. Let the porridge cool down well and always test the temperature on the back of your hand before feeding.

Variations & Tips

  • Fruit Variation: You can easily swap the apricots for peaches or mild apples.
  • Storage: The prepared porridge keeps in the fridge for up to two days. The apricot puree is also perfect for freezing in small portions.
  • Texture Adjustment: For the very first tastes, you can blend the entire finished porridge again to make it completely smooth. Once your child is comfortable with texture, simply mixing it is fine.
  • Family Tip: Adults can enjoy leftover couscous as a sweet bowl topped with nuts, cinnamon, and fresh fruit.

Allergy & Safety Information

Couscous contains wheat (gluten). Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions. Ensure the couscous is completely soft and well-soaked to prevent choking risks. If you have any questions or concerns about starting solids or potential food allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Apricots are rich in beta-carotene and provide valuable vitamin C. The added oil helps the body absorb these fat-soluble vitamins effectively. The couscous offers easily digestible carbohydrates for an active afternoon.
