Sanfter Pfirsich Hirse Brei für den Nachmittag

Gentle Peach and Millet Afternoon Porridge

Solids intro5+m 15 min 4 VeganEasy

Iron rich millet flakes meet gently steamed peach puree in this comforting recipe. This dairy free fruit and cereal porridge is easy to digest and wonderful for babies around six months of age. The natural sweetness of the peach makes it very appealing and invites relaxed tasting.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe peach (approx. 100 g, organic preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons fine millet flakes (approx. 20 g, baby grade)
  • 90 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon canola oil (or specific baby weaning oil)

Preparation

  1. Wash the peach thoroughly, remove the skin and pit, and cut the fruit into small cubes.
  2. Steam the peach cubes in a small pot with a splash of water for about five minutes until soft.
  3. Stir the steamed fruit together with the remaining water and the millet flakes.
  4. Bring the mixture to a brief boil, then remove the pot from the stove.
  5. Let the porridge rest for about five minutes until a smooth, creamy texture forms.
  6. Stir in the canola oil and let the porridge cool down completely. Always check the temperature before offering your child the first spoonful.

Variations & Tips

Instead of peach, gentle pear or apple also work beautifully for this recipe. This allows you to easily vary the flavor for your child. The prepared porridge can be kept in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.

You can cook the peach puree in batches and freeze it in ice cube trays. Simply mix the thawed puree with fresh millet flakes and warm water when needed. For older children or parents, you can cook the millet with milk or a plant based alternative and add a pinch of cinnamon.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe is naturally gluten free and dairy free. It does not contain any of the top 14 allergens. Introduce new foods like peach one at a time and in small amounts, allowing you to observe how your child reacts.

Avoid honey, salt, and sugar completely during the first year of life. If you have any questions about starting solids, always consult your pediatrician.

Nutrition Information

Millet is a wonderful source of plant based iron, which supports healthy growth. The vitamin C from the peach helps the body absorb this iron much more effectively. Additionally, the porridge provides valuable fiber for gentle digestion.
