A Fruity Snack for Cozy Afternoons

These fruity apple rings in pancake batter make a wonderful snack for cozy hours at home. They combine the natural sweetness of apples with a soft batter, which many children from three years old truly enjoy. At the same time, this recipe provides great energy for active play and exploring.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples (sweet varieties like Gala work well)
  • 100 g spelt flour or all-purpose flour
  • 100 ml milk (dairy or oat milk)
  • 1 egg (medium)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or agave nectar (optional)
  • 1 tbsp canola oil or coconut oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Wash and peel the apples, then remove the core using an apple corer. Cut the apples into rings about one centimeter thick.
  2. Whisk the flour, milk, egg, cinnamon, and maple syrup together in a bowl. Stir until you have a smooth, creamy batter.
  3. Heat the oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Dip the apple rings one by one into the batter, making sure they are completely coated.
  4. Place the rings in the pan and fry for about three to four minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Let the finished apple rings drain on a piece of paper towel. Allow them to cool down well and always do a temperature check before serving, as the fruit inside often stays very hot.

Variations and Tips

Firm pears also work wonderfully for this recipe instead of apples. For the whole family, you can toss the warm rings in a light cinnamon-sugar mixture right after baking.

The finished apple rings will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about two days. To reheat, simply warm them briefly in the pan or toaster. Freezing is possible, although the batter often becomes a bit softer after thawing.

Allergy and Safety Notes

This recipe contains wheat, egg, and milk. It is always a good idea to introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any reactions. Make sure the apple rings are soft enough for your child to practice safe chewing.

If you have any uncertainties about diet or potential allergies, please speak with your pediatrician.

Nutrients for Little Explorers

Apples provide valuable fiber, which supports healthy digestion. The egg and milk in the batter contribute important protein for growth. Additionally, the flour offers long-lasting energy for an active day.
