These mild curd cheese patties are a wonderful choice for the third trimester. They provide valuable protein from the cheese and are easy to digest. The unsweetened applesauce adds a pleasant freshness and is very gentle on the stomach.
Ingredients (2 to 3 portions)
- 500 g starchy potatoes (boiled the day before)
- 250 g low fat curd cheese (quark, pasteurized)
- 1 egg (will be fully cooked in the recipe)
- 50 g flour (plus a little extra for dusting)
- 1 pinch of salt
- A little canola oil or butter for frying
- 300 g unsweetened applesauce
Preparation
- Peel the preboiled potatoes and grate them finely into a large bowl.
- Add the curd cheese, egg, flour, and a pinch of salt.
- Knead everything quickly with your hands to form a smooth dough.
- Shape the mixture into small, flat patties and dust them lightly with flour.
- Heat a little oil or butter in a nonstick frying pan.
- Fry the patties until golden brown on both sides, ensuring they are fully cooked through.
- Serve the warm patties together with the unsweetened applesauce.
Good to know
These patties freeze exceptionally well and can be easily reheated in the oven. For a subtle flavor twist, you can grate a little fresh lemon zest into the dough.
When things feel difficult
In the last third of pregnancy, the baby often presses against your stomach. Simply eating two or three small patties spread throughout the day often helps with early fullness or heartburn.
Note
For individual questions about your nutrition during pregnancy, it is best to consult your obstetrician or midwife.
