Homemade Apple-Mango Fruit Leather for Kids

Snacks2+y 225 min 4 VeganMedium

A Fruity Snack for Little Explorers

This homemade fruit leather made from apples and mangoes is a wonderful snack for children aged three and older. It provides valuable vitamins for daily adventures and contains no added sugar. Parents especially love that it does not leave sticky hands while out and about, making it a great alternative to store-bought sweets.

Ingredients

For about two to three portions, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 2 ripe apples (approx. 300 g, organic preferred)
  • 1 ripe mango (approx. 300 g fruit flesh)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Preparation

  1. Peel the apples and the mango, and cut the fruit into small cubes.
  2. Place the fruit cubes and the lemon juice into a blender, pureeing everything until a smooth, creamy mixture forms.
  3. Spread the puree evenly, about two to three millimeters thick, onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Gently dry the fruit leather in the oven at 60 degrees Celsius (fan-assisted) for about three to four hours. Leave the oven door slightly ajar so the moisture can escape.
  5. The fruit leather is ready when the surface is no longer sticky and easily peels away from the parchment paper.
  6. Let it cool completely before cutting it into strips or rolling it up. Always check the temperature before offering the snack to your child.

Variations & Tips

  • Different fruits: Simply swap the mango for strawberries, peaches, or pears.
  • Storage: Stored in an airtight container, the fruit leather keeps in the fridge for about two weeks. You can also freeze it and take out individual portions as needed.
  • Adjusting the texture: For older children, you can spread the puree a bit thicker, which makes the fruit leather chewier.
  • Family tip: For adults, mix a pinch of cinnamon or some finely grated ginger into the puree before drying.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe is free from the main allergens (EU14). Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions. When offering chewy snacks, ensure your child is seated and not running around to minimize the risk of choking. If you have any uncertainties about your child's diet or possible intolerances, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

The combination of apple and mango provides plenty of vitamin C, which is important for your child's immune system. Additionally, the fruit leather contains valuable dietary fiber from the fruit, supporting healthy digestion. Especially for active toddlers, this snack offers quick, natural energy for the afternoon.
