Juicy Baked Apple Donuts for Kids
Introduction
These juicy baked apple donuts make baking together a wonderful experience for the whole family. The grated apple keeps them beautifully soft while providing great energy for little explorers. The handy ring shape also supports fine motor skills when your child grasps and enjoys the treat independently.
Ingredients
- 150 g spelt flour (preferably organic)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 0.5 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 large apple (e.g., Gala or Fuji)
- 2 tbsp neutral oil (like canola oil)
- 100 ml whole milk (or oat drink)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (standard bake) and lightly grease a donut baking pan.
- Wash, peel, and finely grate the apple.
- In a bowl, mix the spelt flour, baking powder, and Ceylon cinnamon together well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, oil, and honey until you have a smooth liquid.
- Add the wet ingredients and the grated apple to the flour mixture, stirring briefly until a thick batter forms.
- Fill the batter into the donut pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts from the oven, let them cool completely, and always check the temperature before serving.
Variations & Tips
- Swap the fruit: Instead of apple, finely grated pear or carrot works wonderfully in this batter.
- Storage: Stored in an airtight container, the donuts keep in the fridge for about two to three days. They also freeze very well and can be thawed individually as needed.
- For the parents: Adults can easily upgrade their own donuts with a classic cinnamon-sugar coating or a drizzle of dark chocolate after baking.
- Texture tweak: If your child prefers more texture, you can dice the apple into tiny cubes instead of grating it.
Allergy & Safety
This recipe contains wheat (spelt), egg, and milk. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions.
Because this recipe includes honey, it is only suitable for children from their first birthday onwards. For younger children, simply omit the honey or replace it with a little unsweetened applesauce.
If you have any questions about introducing new foods, always consult your pediatrician.
Nutritional Info
The fresh apple provides valuable vitamins and fiber, which support healthy digestion. Spelt flour and whole milk offer a great source of sustained energy and protein for daily growth. This ensures your child gets important building blocks for an active day.
