Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Egg

These juicy broccoli and cheese bites are ideal for little hands and offer a wonderful way to bring more vegetables to the family table. Their soft texture encourages independent eating while providing essential energy for active toddlers. Give this simple recipe a try, as it often becomes a quick favorite for the whole family.

Ingredients

  • 150 g broccoli (fresh or thawed)
  • 50 g grated mild cheese (like Gouda or mild cheddar)
  • 1 egg
  • 30 g spelt flour or all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp canola oil
  • A tiny pinch of salt and sweet paprika

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cut the broccoli into small florets and steam them in a little water for about 5 to 7 minutes until tender.
  3. Once cooled, chop the broccoli very finely with a knife until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a bowl, mix the chopped broccoli thoroughly with the cheese, egg, flour, and spices.
  5. Use a spoon to place small mounds of the mixture onto the baking sheet and press them down slightly.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let the bites cool completely and always test the internal temperature before offering them to your child.

Variations & Tips

  • Different vegetables: You can easily swap the broccoli for finely grated carrots or zucchini. Just remember to squeeze out excess water from the zucchini first.
  • Storage: The bites will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about two days. They also freeze beautifully and can be thawed individually as needed.
  • Adjusting texture: For children who prefer a smoother consistency, you can briefly blend the mixture before baking.
  • For the parents: Add a pinch of chili flakes or garlic powder to your own portion before baking for an extra kick of flavor.

Allergy & Safety Info

This recipe contains egg, wheat (gluten), and dairy (cheese), which are common allergens. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any reactions. If you have any concerns about introducing new foods or your child's diet in general, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Info

Broccoli is an excellent source of vitamin C and iron, which are especially valuable for your child's development. The cheese and egg provide high-quality protein and calcium for strong bones. These soft bites offer a fantastic combination of vitamins and building blocks for a growing body.
