Saftiger Birnen-Schoko-Kuchen vom Blech

Juicy Pear and Chocolate Sheet Cake

Seasonal2+y 30 min 4 VeggieEasy
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Egg

Sweet, ripe pears make this autumnal cake incredibly moist. A soft batter with a hint of mild cocoa is often a big hit with kindergarten children. The combination of tender fruit and subtle chocolate flavor provides wonderful energy for active afternoons.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe pear (peeled and diced)
  • 80 g spelt flour
  • 10 g mild cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 30 ml neutral canola oil
  • 50 ml milk (or oat drink)
  • 30 g unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 egg (medium)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat) and lightly oil a small baking dish (about 15 by 20 centimeters).
  2. Peel and core the pear, then cut it into small, bite-sized pieces.
  3. Mix the spelt flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder well in a bowl.
  4. Whisk the egg, oil, milk, and applesauce in a separate bowl until a smooth mixture forms.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir briefly. Gently fold in the pear pieces.
  6. Pour the batter into the dish and bake for about 20 minutes. Use a toothpick to test if the cake is fully baked.
  7. Let the cake cool completely. Always check the temperature before serving so your child does not burn their mouth.

Variations and Tips

  • Swap the fruit: Instead of a pear, a sweet, soft apple also works beautifully for this recipe.
  • Storage: Stored in an airtight container, the cake stays fresh in the fridge for up to three days.
  • Freezing: The cake freezes wonderfully in small pieces and can be thawed individually as needed.
  • For the whole family: Adults can refine their portion with a pinch of cinnamon, chopped walnuts, or a little powdered sugar.

Allergy Information and Safety Information

  • Allergens: This recipe contains wheat (gluten), egg, and milk.
  • New foods: Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions.
  • Nuts: If you add nuts for older family members, remember to only offer them finely ground to young children, as whole pieces pose a choking hazard.
  • Medical advice: If you have any uncertainties about nutrition or potential allergies, it is best to speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Pears provide valuable dietary fiber, which has a positive effect on digestion. The mild cocoa brings antioxidants, while the spelt flour offers long-lasting energy for the day. This is a wonderful combination of nutrients for growing children who are always on the move.
