Mediterranean Tomato and Zucchini Puree with Fine Noodles
Fresh summer tomatoes and mild zucchini bring wonderful variety to the menu. This puree gently introduces your child to their first Mediterranean flavors. The combination of fine vegetables and small noodles provides valuable energy for the day. The recipe is very versatile and can be easily adapted to your child's preferences.
Ingredients
- 100 g zucchini
- 100 g ripe, mild tomatoes
- 20 g fine baby noodles (or small soup noodles)
- 1 tsp canola oil (or specific baby weaning oil)
- A little water for steaming
Preparation
- Wash the vegetables thoroughly. Briefly blanch the tomatoes in hot water, peel off the skin, and remove the seeds.
- Cut the zucchini and the tomato flesh into small cubes.
- Steam the vegetables in a small pot with a little water for about 10 minutes until soft.
- Meanwhile, cook the noodles in a separate pot according to the package instructions until very soft.
- Place the vegetables, noodles, and oil in a tall container. Blend everything until a very smooth, creamy consistency is reached.
- Let the puree cool down well and test the temperature on the back of your hand before feeding.
Variations and Tips
Many children also enjoy a variation with carrots instead of zucchini. For the start of weaning from 5 months, the dish is blended very finely. When your child is ready for more texture later on, you can fold in the cooked noodles whole after blending the vegetables. The puree keeps well in a sealed container in the fridge for up to two days. You can also freeze it perfectly in ice cube trays, keeping small portions ready for the first few days.
Allergy and Safety Information
This recipe contains gluten from the noodles. It is best to introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to carefully observe how they are tolerated. The 3-day rule works well for many families. If you have any uncertainties about introducing solid foods, please consult your pediatrician. Please note that babies under 12 months must not be given honey.
Nutritional Information
Mild zucchini is particularly easy to digest and gentle on tiny tummies. Tomatoes provide valuable Vitamin C, which can help absorb iron from other foods. The noodles offer long-lasting energy for active days, while the canola oil is important for absorbing fat-soluble vitamins.
