Milder Mandelmus-Bananen-Aufstrich auf Dinkelbrot

Mild Almond Butter and Banana Spread on Spelt Bread

Snacks12+m 5 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Gluten, Tree nuts

This creamy spread is a wonderful snack for little explorers aged twelve months and up. The combination of sweet banana and nutty almond butter provides quick energy and valuable fats for an active afternoon. Parents love this recipe because it is ready in a flash and contains no added sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana (organic preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons smooth, white almond butter (no chunks, 100% almonds)
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon (optional, Ceylon cinnamon preferred)
  • 2 to 3 slices of soft spelt bread (without hard crusts)

Preparation

  1. Peel the banana and place it in a shallow bowl.
  2. Mash the fruit thoroughly with a fork until a fine, lump-free puree forms.
  3. Add the almond butter and a small pinch of cinnamon if desired. Stir everything vigorously until the ingredients blend into a smooth mixture.
  4. Spread the mixture generously onto the slices of soft spelt bread.
  5. Cut the bread into bite-sized pieces so your child can easily pick them up and eat independently.

Variations and Tips

Mix it up: You can easily swap the almond butter for smooth cashew butter or unsweetened peanut butter.

Storage: The spread will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one day. The banana may turn brown quickly, but it remains safe and tasty. Freezing is not recommended, as the texture of the banana mixture can change once thawed.

Family tip: Adults can sweeten their portion with a drizzle of honey or sprinkle chopped nuts on top for extra crunch. Remember that honey is strictly unsafe for babies under 12 months, and whole nuts remain a choking hazard for young children.

Texture adjustment: If your child still finds bread crusts challenging to chew, simply cut them off generously before spreading.

Allergy and Safety Information

This recipe contains tree nuts (almonds) and gluten (spelt bread). Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any potential allergic reactions.

Ensure you only use completely smooth nut butters, as whole or chopped nuts pose a serious choking hazard for toddlers. If adding honey for older family members, keep in mind that it is unsafe for babies under twelve months due to the risk of infant botulism.

If you have any concerns about introducing solids or toddler nutrition, always consult your pediatrician.

Why this recipe is beneficial

Smooth almond butter is an excellent source of plant-based protein, calcium, and healthy fats, which are vital for brain development. Bananas offer easily digestible carbohydrates and potassium, providing quick energy for busy little bodies. Spelt bread also adds valuable fiber to support healthy digestion.
