Mild Asparagus and Potato Puree for Babies
This delicate spring puree featuring mild white asparagus and potatoes is a wonderful choice for early weaning. The gentle, smooth texture is very easy on tiny tummies and brings the taste of the season to the spoon. It is a lovely way to gently awaken curiosity for new vegetables.
Ingredients
- 100 g white asparagus (organic preferred)
- 100 g potatoes (all-purpose)
- 1 tbsp rapeseed oil (canola oil)
- approx. 50 ml water (cooking water or plain water)
Preparation
- Wash the asparagus thoroughly, peel it, and generously trim off the woody ends.
- Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into small cubes. Slice the asparagus into small pieces.
- Bring the vegetables to a boil in a small pot with a little water, cover, and let simmer gently for about 15 minutes until very soft.
- Place the vegetables and the cooking water into a tall container and blend until you reach a completely smooth, lump-free consistency.
- Finally, stir in the rapeseed oil and let the puree cool to room temperature. Always test the temperature on your wrist before feeding.
Variations & Tips
Once your child enjoys asparagus, you can try mixing in a little carrot or zucchini later on. For older children who are already used to lumps, you can just lightly mash the ingredients with a fork.
The puree keeps well in a sealed container in the fridge for up to two days. It also freezes beautifully in ice cube trays and lasts for up to three months.
Simply cook extra asparagus and potatoes for the whole family. You can set aside portions for the parents before blending and season them with fresh herbs and a little butter.
Allergy & Safety Information
Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts initially, often two to six spoons are plenty to start. This allows you to easily observe how your child tolerates the ingredients.
Milk remains the main source of nutrition during this phase. This recipe is free from the 14 major EU allergens. If you have any uncertainties about starting solids or potential intolerances, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutritional Information
White asparagus provides valuable fiber that supports gentle digestion. Potatoes offer easily accessible energy and are pleasantly filling. The added rapeseed oil is a wonderful source of important omega-3 fatty acids, which are valuable for brain development.
