Mild Cream Cheese and Carrot Wrap Roll-ups for Toddlers

Snacks12+m 15 min 4 VeggieMedium
Contains: Gluten, Dairy

Introduction

These soft wrap roll-ups with creamy cheese and sweet carrot make a wonderful snack for children past their first birthday. They are easy for little hands to grasp, gently encouraging independent eating. At the same time, they provide valuable energy for an active afternoon at the family table.

Ingredients

  • 2 soft wheat tortillas (wraps, ideally whole wheat)
  • 100 g mild cream cheese (full fat)
  • 1 medium carrot (approx. 80 g, organic recommended)
  • 1 tsp finely chopped parsley (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 pinch sweet paprika powder

Preparation

  1. Wash and peel the carrot, then grate it very finely using a kitchen grater.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese with the grated carrot, parsley, and paprika powder until a smooth spread forms.
  3. Lay the wheat tortillas flat on a cutting board and spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over them. Leave about one centimeter clear around the edges.
  4. Roll the wraps up tightly and press the ends gently to seal.
  5. Using a sharp knife, cut the rolls into bite-sized slices about two to three centimeters thick.
  6. Serve the roll-ups immediately or let them rest briefly in the fridge for a firmer texture. Always check the temperature and consistency before offering food to your child.

Variations & Tips

  • Instead of carrot, you can use very finely grated cucumber or zucchini. Just make sure to squeeze out any excess water first.
  • This snack is easily adaptable for the rest of the family. Simply add a little salt, pepper, or a few drops of lemon juice to the adult portions.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will stay fresh for about two days.
  • We do not recommend freezing this recipe, as the cream cheese can become watery once thawed.

Allergy & Safety Information

  • This recipe contains gluten (wheat tortillas) and dairy (cream cheese). Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts.
  • While honey is permitted after 12 months, this recipe relies entirely on the natural sweetness of the carrot. For babies under one year, honey is strictly off-limits due to the risk of infant botulism.
  • Ensure that nuts or seeds are only offered finely ground or as a smooth butter to prevent choking.
  • If you have any concerns about introducing new foods or transitioning to family meals, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Note

The combination of carrot and cream cheese provides important vitamin A and calcium. These nutrients support healthy bone growth and the development of vision. The wheat tortillas also offer valuable carbohydrates for sustained energy during playtime.
