Mild Fennel and Orange Puree with Salmon
This mild winter puree combines delicate fennel with a hint of fresh orange. Tender salmon provides valuable Omega-3 fatty acids, while the Vitamin C from the orange supports nutrient absorption. It is a wonderful dish for gently introducing new flavors to your child.
Ingredients
- 150 g fennel
- 100 g potatoes
- 30 g salmon fillet (fresh or thawed, skinless and boneless)
- 3 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
Preparation
- Wash the fennel, remove the hard core, and cut it into small pieces.
- Peel and wash the potatoes, then dice them finely.
- Rinse the salmon fillet under cold water, pat dry, and cut into small pieces. Check carefully to ensure all bones are removed.
- Bring the fennel and potatoes to a boil in a small pot with a little water and steam gently for about 10 minutes.
- Add the salmon and cook for another 5 minutes until the fish is completely cooked through.
- Puree everything together with the orange juice and rapeseed oil until you reach a very smooth, creamy consistency with no lumps.
- Allow the puree to cool down and always test the temperature before feeding your child.
Variations & Tips
- If your child prefers different flavors, you can easily swap the fennel for mild zucchini or carrots.
- Because this puree contains fish, store any leftovers in the fridge for a maximum of one day.
- This recipe freezes beautifully. Portion it into ice cube trays so you can gradually increase the serving size later.
- If the consistency is too thick, simply stir in a little boiled water.
Allergies & Safety
This recipe contains fish (salmon), which is a common allergen. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to monitor for any reactions. Ensure the salmon is cooked completely through before pureeing and that no bones remain. If you have any uncertainties about introducing solid foods or allergies, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutrition
Salmon is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which support early development. The Vitamin C from the orange juice helps the body absorb nutrients more effectively. Fennel is also very mild, provides gentle fiber, and is easy on little tummies.
