Milde Hirse-Karotten-Bällchen für Babys: Ein einfaches Rezept

Mild Millet and Carrot Bites for Babies: A Simple Recipe

Snacks5+m 35 min 4 VeganEasy

Introduction

These soft bites made from cooked millet and finely grated carrot are a wonderful snack for your child. They are perfectly sized for little hands to grasp and melt easily in the mouth. This makes them ideal for baby-led weaning and exploring new textures. At the same time, they provide valuable nutrients for growing bodies in a fun, approachable way.

Ingredients

  • 50 g millet (organic if possible)
  • 150 ml water
  • 1 small carrot (approx. 50 g)
  • 1 tsp canola oil

Preparation

  1. Rinse the millet thoroughly under hot water using a fine mesh sieve.
  2. Wash, peel, and grate the carrot very finely.
  3. Bring the millet and water to a boil in a small saucepan.
  4. Add the grated carrot and let everything simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the pot from the stove, stir in the canola oil, and let the mixture sit covered for another 10 minutes until thick.
  6. Spread the mixture on a flat plate to cool completely.
  7. Using clean hands, form small, bite-sized balls.
  8. Always check the temperature inside the bites before serving them to your child.

Variations and Tips

  • Swap the vegetables: Finely grated zucchini or sweet potato works beautifully instead of carrot.
  • Storage: The bites will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for about two days.
  • Freezing: You can easily freeze the prepared bites and thaw them individually as needed.
  • For the family: Parents can season their portion with a pinch of salt and fresh herbs before shaping.

Allergy and Safety Information

This recipe is free from the top 14 common allergens. However, always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts. This allows you to observe how your child reacts. If you have any concerns about starting solid foods, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Millet is a fantastic plant-based source of iron for your child. Carrots provide plenty of beta-carotene, which the body converts into Vitamin A. The added canola oil helps your baby's body absorb these fat-soluble vitamins effectively.
