Mild Turkey Strips with Sweet Potato Mash for Pregnancy

PregnancySchwangerschaft 30 min 4Medium
Contains: Dairy

Introduction

During pregnancy, especially in the later stages, the body often appreciates mild and warming meals. These turkey strips with sweet potato mash provide valuable energy without overloading the stomach. The sweet potatoes offer great nutrients, while the mild meat is nicely filling.

Ingredients

For two to three portions, you will need:

  • 400 g turkey breast (cut into strips)
  • 500 g sweet potatoes
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 tablespoon canola or olive oil
  • 200 ml vegetable broth
  • 100 g crème fraîche (made from pasteurized milk)
  • A little salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Preparation

  1. Peel the sweet potatoes and the carrot and cut both into small cubes.
  2. Boil the diced vegetables in lightly salted water for about 15 minutes until tender.
  3. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a pan and brown the turkey strips well on all sides.
  4. Pour in the vegetable broth and let the meat simmer gently for about 10 minutes until it is fully cooked through.
  5. Stir the crème fraîche into the pan and season the sauce gently with salt and pepper.
  6. Drain the water from the sweet potatoes, add a pinch of nutmeg, and mash everything into a smooth puree.
  7. Serve the sweet potato mash together with the turkey and sprinkle with fresh parsley if you like.

Good to know

This dish is great to prepare ahead for the next day. Simply store any leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat them thoroughly before eating. If you are in the mood for more vegetables, a few broccoli florets go beautifully in the sauce.

When things feel difficult

Many women experience heartburn or feel full very quickly towards the end of their pregnancy. In this situation, it helps to keep portions smaller and spread them throughout the day. You can also skip the crème fraîche and use a little more mild broth instead.

A quick note

If you have any questions about your nutrition or experience persistent discomfort like severe heartburn, it is best to reach out to your obstetrician, gynecologist, or midwife.
