Mild Vegetable Rice Pan with Chicken and Corn for Kids
Introduction
This mild dish is a wonderful choice for children aged three and older. It combines familiar flavors like sweet corn with tender chicken, providing valuable energy for active days. The gentle seasoning appeals to picky eaters and makes for a relaxed family meal.
Ingredients
- 150 g long-grain rice (such as basmati, organic if possible)
- 250 g chicken breast fillet
- 150 g sweet corn (canned or thawed frozen corn)
- 1 small carrot
- 1 small onion
- 2 tbsp mild vegetable oil (such as canola oil)
- 300 ml mild vegetable broth (low sodium)
- 1 pinch sweet paprika powder
- 1 tsp dried parsley
Preparation
- Cook the rice in gently boiling water according to the package instructions until it is soft.
- Wash the chicken breast fillet, pat it dry, and cut it into very small, bite-sized cubes.
- Peel the carrot and grate it finely. Peel the onion and dice it into small pieces.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Sauté the onions until they are translucent.
- Add the chicken cubes and fry them on all sides until they are completely cooked through.
- Stir in the grated carrot and the sweet corn. Pour in the vegetable broth to deglaze the pan.
- Add the sweet paprika powder and parsley. Cover the pan and let everything simmer gently for about ten minutes.
- Fold the soft-cooked rice into the vegetable and chicken mixture, blending it well.
- Allow the dish to cool slightly before serving. Please test the temperature before your child takes the first bite.
Variations & Tips
- Swap the vegetables: Instead of carrots, fine zucchini cubes or peas fit perfectly into this dish.
- Storage: Leftovers keep well covered in the refrigerator for up to two days. This meal also freezes beautifully and can be thawed in portions.
- For the parents: Adults can season their portions at the table with a bit more salt, pepper, or a splash of lemon juice.
- Adjust the texture: For children who are still practicing, you can cut the meat even finer or cook the vegetables a little longer until they are very soft.
Allergy & Safety Information
- Ensure that the chicken is always cooked completely through.
- It is helpful to introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily spot any potential sensitivities.
- If you have any concerns about your child's diet or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutrition Information
This meal provides important protein and iron from the chicken, which supports healthy growth. The rice offers long-lasting energy through complex carbohydrates. At the same time, the vegetables supply valuable fiber for balanced digestion.
