Milde weiße Bohnencreme mit gedünsteten Paprikasticks

Mild White Bean Dip with Steamed Bell Pepper Sticks

Snacks12+m 18 min 4 VeganEasy

This mild bean cream with steamed bell pepper sticks makes a wonderful snack for the family table. The soft vegetable sticks are gentle on the gums and easy for little hands to grasp. At the same time, the creamy dip provides valuable plant-based protein for an active day.

Ingredients

  • 200 g white beans (canned or jarred, rinsed well)
  • 1 red or yellow bell pepper
  • 2 tbsp rapeseed oil (canola oil)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 pinch mild paprika powder
  • 1 tiny pinch of salt (optional)
  • 1 tbsp water (if needed for consistency)

Preparation

  1. Place the white beans in a sieve and rinse them thoroughly under cold running water. Let them drain well.
  2. Put the beans, rapeseed oil, lemon juice, and paprika powder into a tall container. Blend everything with an immersion blender until a smooth, creamy texture forms.
  3. If the dip is too thick, simply add a tablespoon of water and blend again briefly.
  4. Wash and core the bell pepper, then cut it into long, hand-sized sticks.
  5. Gently steam the pepper sticks in a pot with a little water for about five to eight minutes until they are soft.
  6. Let the vegetables cool down and always check the temperature before serving so your child does not burn their mouth.

Variations and Tips

  • Swap the vegetables: Instead of bell peppers, steamed carrot sticks or zucchini work wonderfully for dipping.
  • Storage: The bean dip keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for about two days. It also freezes very well in small portions.
  • For the parents: Simply enhance your portion of the dip at the table with a little garlic, black pepper, and a pinch of chili flakes.
  • Adjusting texture: For children who already chew very well, you can also serve the bell pepper sticks raw.

Allergy and Safety Notes

Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions. This recipe is naturally free from the most common allergens. However, always check the ingredient list on store-bought beans.

Honey is only allowed after the first birthday, as it poses a risk of botulism for babies. Nuts and seeds may only be offered finely ground or as a smooth butter due to the choking hazard.

If you have any uncertainties about nutrition or introducing solid foods, please speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Note

White beans are an excellent source of plant-based protein and fiber, which supports healthy digestion. The red bell pepper provides plenty of vitamin C. This vitamin helps the body absorb the plant-based iron from the beans much better.
