Mini Peach Cream Cheese Pancake Rolls
A wonderful snack for little explorers
These fruity pancake rolls make a fantastic snack for children around their first birthday. The combination of soft dough and creamy filling is easy to chew and encourages fine motor skills during self-feeding. At the same time, this small meal provides valuable energy for an active afternoon at the family table.
Ingredients (for 2 to 3 portions)
- 100 g spelt flour (or all-purpose flour)
- 200 ml whole milk
- 1 egg (medium)
- 1 tsp canola oil or mild cooking oil (for the pan)
- 1 ripe peach (approx. 100 g fruit flesh)
- 100 g plain cream cheese (full fat)
- Optional: 1 tsp honey (only for children over 12 months)
Preparation
- Whisk the flour, milk, and egg in a bowl until you have a smooth batter. Let the batter rest for about 10 minutes so the flour can absorb the liquid.
- Peel the peach, remove the pit, and mash the flesh finely with a fork or puree it briefly. Fold the cream cheese into the peach puree until a smooth, creamy mixture forms.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and brush the oil evenly across the surface. Pour in small amounts of batter to make thin pancakes, cooking each for about 2 to 3 minutes per side until lightly golden.
- Transfer the finished pancakes to a plate and let them cool completely.
- Spread the peach cream cheese mixture evenly over each pancake. Roll the pancakes up tightly and cut them into small, bite-sized pinwheels with a sharp knife.
- Always check the temperature before serving to ensure the rolls are comfortably cool or lukewarm for your child.
Variations and practical tips
Fruity variety: Instead of peach, pureed berries, soft pears, or unsweetened applesauce work wonderfully for the filling.
Storage: Unfilled pancakes can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 2 days. They also freeze very well and can be thawed individually as needed.
For the whole family: Parents can enhance their own portions with a sprinkle of cinnamon, chopped nuts, or an extra drizzle of honey.
Adjusting texture: For children who are still practicing their grip, you can slice the rolls a bit thicker so they are easier to hold.
Allergy and safety notes
This recipe contains wheat (gluten), egg, and milk (dairy), which are common allergens. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions.
If you choose to use honey, remember that it is only safe for children over 12 months of age. Before the first birthday, there is a risk of infant botulism.
If you have any concerns about toddler nutrition or food introductions, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutrients for growth and energy
The cream cheese and milk provide important calcium and protein, which support bone growth during this active phase. The peach adds a gentle sweetness along with vitamin C. Spelt flour also contains valuable fiber, helping to support healthy digestion and keeping little tummies comfortably full.
