Mini Turkey Meatballs for Snack Time

Snacks2+y 26 min 4Medium
Contains: Gluten, Egg

Introduction

These mini turkey meatballs are a wonderful, savory snack for active children aged three and older. They provide valuable protein for growing bodies and are very easy for little hands to hold. Parents will find them perfect for family outings or as a lunchbox addition.

Ingredients

  • 250 g ground turkey (organic if possible)
  • 1 small carrot
  • 2 tbsp rolled oats (fine)
  • 1 small egg
  • 1 tsp parsley (fresh or dried)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of sweet paprika
  • 1 tbsp canola oil for frying

Preparation

  1. Wash and peel the carrot, then grate it finely.
  2. Combine the ground turkey, grated carrot, oats, egg, parsley, salt, and paprika in a bowl. Mix everything thoroughly until a smooth, even mixture forms.
  3. Dampen your hands slightly and roll the mixture into small, bite-sized balls.
  4. Heat the canola oil in a pan over medium heat.
  5. Add the meatballs to the pan and fry them on all sides for about 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown. Ensure the meat is cooked completely through on the inside.
  6. Remove the meatballs from the pan and let them rest on a paper towel. Allow them to cool down well and check the internal temperature before serving.

Variations & Tips

  • Vegetable swap: Finely grated zucchini works wonderfully instead of carrots. Gently squeeze the moisture out of the zucchini first so the mixture stays firm.
  • Storage: The meatballs stay fresh in an airtight container in the fridge for about two days. They also freeze beautifully, allowing you to thaw individual portions as needed.
  • For the whole family: Adults can easily whip up a spicy yogurt dip with garlic and extra herbs to enjoy alongside.

Allergy & Safety Information

  • This recipe contains egg and gluten (oats), which are common allergens. Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to observe any potential reactions.
  • When cooking poultry, always make sure the meat is thoroughly cooked without any pink spots inside.
  • If you have any uncertainties about your child's diet or potential allergies, please speak with your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Lean turkey is an excellent source of high-quality protein and also provides important iron. The oats add complex carbohydrates and fiber, offering sustained energy for busy days. The carrot contributes beta-carotene, which the body uses for healthy development.
