Peach Semolina Slices: Fruity Finger Food for Babies

Snacks5+m 75 min 4 VeganEasy
Contains: Gluten

Introduction

These peach semolina slices offer a wonderful way to gently introduce your child to new textures. The soft semolina is easy to grasp and practically melts in the mouth. At the same time, the sweet peach provides valuable vitamins for their daily adventures at the dining table.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe peach (organic recommended)
  • 100 ml water or age-appropriate baby formula
  • 30 g soft wheat semolina
  • 1 teaspoon canola oil (suitable for baby food)

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, pit, and dice the peach into small cubes. Steam the pieces in a small pot with a splash of water for about 5 minutes until soft.
  2. Blend the soft peach pieces into a very smooth puree using an immersion blender.
  3. Bring the water or baby formula to a boil in a small saucepan. Slowly whisk in the wheat semolina, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
  4. Simmer the semolina mixture on low heat for about 2 to 3 minutes until a thick, creamy consistency forms.
  5. Stir the peach puree and the canola oil thoroughly into the semolina porridge.
  6. Spread the mixture about 1 to 2 centimeters thick onto a small plate and let it set in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
  7. Once cooled and firm, cut the mixture into handy, elongated slices. Always check the temperature before offering it to your child.

Variations & Tips

  • This recipe works beautifully with apples, pears, or unsweetened applesauce as an alternative to peach.
  • The slices can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. They also freeze well and can be thawed individually.
  • For babies who prefer smooth textures, you can add a bit more liquid during cooking and serve it directly as a spoonable porridge.
  • A tip for parents: Drizzled with a little maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon, these slices make a lovely companion to your afternoon coffee.

Allergy & Safety Notes

Wheat semolina contains gluten. Always introduce gluten and new fruits one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions. Ensure the peach is steamed very soft and blended smoothly to create a safe, pleasant texture. If you have any questions about starting solid foods or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Wheat semolina provides long-lasting energy and valuable carbohydrates for active days. The fresh peach contains vitamin C, which wonderfully supports the absorption of iron from the grain. The added canola oil supplies essential fatty acids for your child's brain development.
