Plum, Pear and Millet Porridge for Your Baby
This late-summer fruit and grain porridge is a wonderful meal for your child. Iron-rich millet is combined with softly steamed plums and pears. The result tastes naturally sweet and is wonderfully creamy. The fruits also gently support healthy digestion.
This puree brings the taste of late summer right to the spoon. It is perfectly suited for the weaning phase starting around five months. The preparation is quick and easily fits into a busy family schedule.
Ingredients
- 20 g millet flakes (or fine millet)
- 1 ripe pear (approx. 100 g)
- 2 ripe plums (approx. 80 g)
- 100 ml water
- 1 tsp rapeseed oil (or mild olive oil)
Preparation
- Wash, peel, and core the pear and plums carefully. Cut the fruit into small cubes.
- Place the diced fruit and water into a small pot. Let everything simmer gently over medium heat for about five minutes until soft.
- Stir the millet flakes into the hot fruit compote. Remove the pot from the stove and let the porridge rest for about three minutes to thicken.
- Puree the mixture finely until you reach a very smooth, creamy consistency with no lumps.
- Finally, stir the oil into the finished porridge. Let the meal cool down thoroughly and test the temperature on the inside of your wrist before feeding.
Variations and Tips
You can easily replace the plums with a small apple. This creates a mild apple, pear, and millet porridge that many children enjoy.
The puree keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. You can perfectly freeze leftovers in ice cube trays and thaw them in small portions as needed.
For older children who are already chewing, you can simply mash the fruit with a fork instead of pureeing it finely. Adults can save a portion for themselves and top it with a pinch of cinnamon and chopped walnuts.
Allergy and Safety Information
Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts. This helps you see how your child reacts to them. This recipe is naturally gluten-free and does not contain any of the top allergens.
Never use honey during the first twelve months of life, as it can contain dangerous bacteria. If you have any concerns about starting solid foods, please speak with your pediatrician.
Nutritional Information
Millet is an excellent plant-based source of iron for your child. The vitamin C from the pear and plums helps the body absorb this iron effectively. At the same time, the fruits provide valuable fiber for balanced digestion.
