Poultry Meatballs with Mashed Potatoes for Pregnancy

PregnancySchwangerschaft 45 min 4Hard
Contains: Gluten, Dairy, Egg, Mustard

Introduction

This mild dish provides you with valuable protein and iron, while the creamy mashed potatoes are comfortably filling. Poultry is an excellent choice during pregnancy as long as it is cooked completely through. It is a gentle way to nourish yourself and support your changing body.

Ingredients

For the meatballs (2 to 3 portions):

  • 400 g ground poultry (chicken or turkey)
  • 1 small stale bread roll or 3 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Salt, pepper, and a pinch of mild paprika
  • 2 tbsp canola oil for frying

For the mash and vegetables:

  • 600 g floury potatoes
  • 150 ml pasteurized milk
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • A pinch of nutmeg and salt
  • 300 g frozen peas

Preparation

  1. Peel the potatoes, cut them into chunks, and boil them in salted water until tender.
  2. Soak the bread roll in a little water, squeeze out the excess, and knead it or the breadcrumbs with the ground poultry, egg, onion, and spices.
  3. Shape the mixture into small meatballs and fry them in canola oil over medium heat until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Ensure the meat is completely cooked through and no longer pink on the inside.
  5. Boil the frozen peas in a separate pot with a little water for a few minutes until tender.
  6. Drain the soft potatoes, mash them, and stir in the warm milk and butter until you have a creamy mash.
  7. Season the mash with salt and nutmeg, then serve everything together on a warm plate.

Good to know

Meatballs are wonderful for meal prep and can be enjoyed again the next day once thoroughly reheated. Always keep raw ground poultry well chilled in the refrigerator. It is best to cook the meat on the same day you purchase it.

When things feel difficult

If you are experiencing heartburn or nausea, simply leave the onion out of the meatballs and reduce the spices. You can also split the meal into several smaller portions throughout the day. This helps soothe your stomach and often makes eating feel more manageable.

Note

If you have any uncertainties or questions about your diet during pregnancy, it is best to consult your obstetrician, gynecologist, or midwife.
