Introduction
Practical finger food is wonderful for little fish explorers. The salmon provides valuable omega-3 fatty acids, while the muffin shape encourages independent eating. Parents can easily integrate this wholesome dish into their everyday family meals.
Ingredients
- 100 g salmon fillet (fresh or thawed, bones removed)
- 50 g fresh baby spinach (washed and finely chopped)
- 2 eggs
- 50 ml cow's milk (or plant-based alternative)
- 60 g spelt flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- A pinch of mild herbs (for example dill or parsley)
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and lightly grease a small muffin tin.
- Check the salmon fillet for bones, cut it into very fine cubes, and mix it with the chopped spinach in a bowl.
- Whisk the eggs, milk, and canola oil in a separate bowl, then stir in the flour, baking powder, and herbs until a smooth batter forms.
- Gently fold the salmon and spinach mixture into the batter and distribute it evenly among the muffin cups.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes until golden brown and the salmon is fully cooked through.
- Let the muffins cool completely and always do a temperature test before feeding your child.
Variations & Tips
- Swap the veggies: Instead of spinach, you can also use finely grated zucchini or carrots.
- For the whole family: Adults can season their portion with a pinch of salt and pepper after baking.
- Storage: The muffins stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to two days. They also freeze wonderfully and can be thawed individually as needed.
- Texture adjustment: For younger eaters, you can briefly puree the salmon and spinach before folding them in, making the batter even smoother.
Allergy & Safety Information
- This recipe contains eggs, fish, milk, and gluten (EU14 allergens).
- Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily observe any potential reactions.
- Ensure that the salmon is fully cooked and completely free of bones.
- If you have any uncertainties about introducing solid foods or potential allergies, please consult your pediatrician.
Nutrition Note
Salmon is an excellent source of valuable omega-3 fatty acids, which are highly beneficial for a toddler's brain development. The spinach adds iron and vitamins to support healthy growth. Thanks to the spelt flour, the dietary fiber helps keep little tummies full and satisfied for longer.
