Solids intro5+m 25 min 4Easy
Introduction
Green beans provide valuable nutrients and are cooked extra soft for babies. Combined with iron-rich beef and potatoes, they create a satisfying and easily digestible meal. This smooth puree is wonderful for those early spoonfuls. The mild recipe makes it easy for parents to gently introduce their child to new flavors.
Ingredients
- 100 g green beans (fresh or frozen, ends trimmed)
- 50 g potatoes (starchy or all-purpose variety)
- 20 g lean beef (such as ground beef or tenderloin)
- 1 tbsp canola oil (or mild baby weaning oil)
- approx. 50 ml water for blending
Preparation
- Wash and trim the green beans thoroughly. Cut them into fine pieces.
- Peel the potatoes and chop them into small cubes. This helps them cook faster and more evenly.
- Cut the beef into very small cubes. Make sure to remove any tough connective tissue beforehand.
- Place the beans, potatoes, and meat in a small pot. Cover the ingredients barely with water and bring everything to a boil.
- Let the mixture simmer over medium heat for about 15 minutes. The meat must be completely cooked through by the end.
- Drain the cooking water, catching a small amount of it in a cup.
- Blend the cooked ingredients together with the canola oil and a splash of the reserved water. Blend until you reach a completely smooth, creamy consistency with no chunks.
- Allow the puree to cool down well. Always test the temperature on the back of your hand before feeding your child.
Variations & Tips
- Chicken breast works beautifully as an alternative to beef in this recipe. Poultry offers a particularly mild taste.
- This puree is great for batch cooking. Stored in the refrigerator, it stays fresh for up to two days.
- For longer storage, portion the puree into clean ice cube trays and freeze it. This way, you always have small amounts ready to go.
- As your child grows and handles textures better, simply blend the ingredients for a shorter time.
Allergy & Safety Notes
- Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts. This makes it much easier to spot any potential sensitivities.
- Green beans must always be cooked completely soft for babies. When raw, they contain a compound that is only neutralized by sufficient heat.
- Always ensure that meat dishes for babies are thoroughly cooked. There must be no raw or pink spots left.
- If you have any concerns about starting solids, always consult your pediatrician.
Nutritional Information
- Beef is an excellent source of iron. Iron supports blood formation and cognitive development during this important stage of life.
- Green beans and potatoes add valuable fiber and vitamins. The canola oil helps the body optimally absorb the fat-soluble vitamins from the vegetables.
