Feiner Erbsen-Süßkartoffel-Brei mit Pute für Babys

Smooth Pea and Sweet Potato Puree with Turkey

Solids intro5+m 25 min 4Easy

Introduction

Tender peas and mild sweet potatoes pair beautifully with turkey to create a wonderfully nutritious meal for your child. This puree is rich in both plant-based and animal proteins, providing valuable energy for the day. Blending it until very smooth makes the texture exceptionally gentle on a little stomach, making it a favorite choice for many parents starting the journey into solid foods.

Ingredients

  • 100 g sweet potato (peeled weight)
  • 50 g frozen peas (organic if possible)
  • 30 g turkey breast fillet (fresh, trimmed)
  • 1 tbsp canola oil (or specific baby weaning oil)
  • 2 to 3 tbsp water (for blending)

Preparation

  1. Peel the sweet potato and cut it into small cubes. Rinse the turkey breast under cold water, pat dry, and cut it into small pieces as well.
  2. Place the sweet potato cubes and turkey into a small pot and cover them with a little water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
  3. Add the frozen peas and continue to cook for another 5 minutes until the vegetables are very soft and the meat is completely cooked through.
  4. Drain the cooking water, reserving a small amount. Add the canola oil and 2 to 3 tablespoons of the reserved water to the pot.
  5. Use an immersion blender to puree everything until it is completely smooth and free of any chunks.
  6. Allow the puree to cool to room temperature. Always test the temperature yourself before feeding your child.

Variations and Tips

  • Different Vegetables: You can easily swap the peas for mild zucchini or butternut squash. This is a great way to gently introduce new flavors.
  • Storage: The puree can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. It also freezes exceptionally well, ideally portioned in ice cube trays, and keeps for up to three months.
  • Adjusting Texture: For those very first spoonfuls, you can press the puree through a fine mesh sieve to remove any tiny pea skins. As your child grows, the consistency can gradually become thicker.
  • Family Tip: Simply cook a larger batch of the vegetables and meat. Before pureeing the baby's portion, take out some for the adults and season generously with salt, pepper, and fresh herbs.

Allergy and Safety Information

Always introduce new foods one at a time and in small amounts to carefully observe any potential reactions. While this recipe does not contain the major common allergens, it is always wise to be observant during the weaning process. Please completely avoid salt, sugar, and honey in the first year. Honey can pose a severe health risk to babies.

Ensure that all poultry is cooked completely through before serving. If you have any concerns about introducing solid foods, please consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

This meal provides your child with important iron from the turkey, which is easily absorbed by the body thanks to the vitamin C in the peas. The sweet potato offers valuable dietary fiber and complex carbohydrates for sustained energy. This combination wonderfully supports the rapid growth and development characteristic of this exciting phase.
