Toddler meals12+m 20 min 4 VeggieEasy
Contains: Gluten, Dairy

Introduction

Gnocchi are beautifully soft and the perfect size for little mouths. The sweet peas and gentle cream sauce often make this dish an absolute favorite among children. At the same time, it provides wonderful energy for active toddlers joining the family table.

Ingredients

  • 400 g gnocchi (from the refrigerated section)
  • 150 g frozen peas
  • 100 ml heavy cream (or oat cream)
  • 50 ml low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp butter or mild vegetable oil
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp fresh chopped parsley

Preparation

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface.
  2. In a separate pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the frozen peas and gently sauté for about three minutes.
  3. Pour the cream and low-sodium vegetable broth into the pan. Stir everything well and let it simmer gently for another five minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Lift the cooked gnocchi out of the water with a slotted spoon and add them directly to the sauce in the pan. Stir in the pinch of nutmeg and the parsley.
  5. Let the dish cool down well before serving. Always test the temperature yourself before offering your child the first bite.

Variations & Tips

  • Swap the veggies: Instead of peas, small broccoli florets or finely diced carrots work wonderfully in this mild sauce.
  • Storage: You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. This dish also freezes quite well.
  • Adjusting texture: For children who are just getting used to family meals, you can gently mash the gnocchi and peas with a fork.
  • Tip for parents: Simply season your own portion at the table with a little salt, freshly ground pepper, and grated parmesan cheese.

Allergy & Safety Information

This recipe contains dairy (cream, butter) and wheat (depending on the gnocchi brand), which are common allergens. Always introduce new ingredients one at a time and in small amounts to easily monitor for any reactions. Whole peas can sometimes be tricky for beginners, but they are very easy to mash with a fork. If you have any uncertainties about your toddler's diet, it is always best to consult your pediatrician.

Nutritional Information

Peas bring plant-based protein and valuable fiber to the plate, supporting healthy digestion. The gnocchi provide easily accessible carbohydrates for lots of playtime energy. The cream adds a good portion of fat, which toddlers can use well during this growth phase.
